Territorial Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that the Kensington-Bellwoods Community Legal Services office sits on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Tkaronto, now known as Toronto, is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit, as well as the Williams Treaties signed with numerous Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
We are all Treaty people. We have all come here as settlers, immigrants, and newcomers in this generation or generations past. There are also generations past who came here involuntarily, particularly as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. And so, we also honour and pay tribute to the ancestors of African Origin and Descent.
