The City of Toronto has launched a new Rental Building Violations and Inspections Database. The database provides members of the public with access to information about enforcement activity in rental apartment buildings. This tool was developed in response to Council’s direction to develop a cross-divisional database for tracking investigation and enforcement activity (EX29.14).
It brings together information about RentSafeTO buildings with active violations, inspections, health hazards and other concerns; and is intended to make it easier for tenants, tenant advocates, and others to access information on what orders and violations have been identified in the rental buildings.
The City’s Tenant Advisory Committee was consulted in the development of the database, and the City will also be conducting user experience testing with tenants and tenant advocates to further improve the public database.
